One change to change it all?

Dear Editor:
When federal personal income tax (FPIT) rates jump 10 percent, a few dollars more can costs thousands in taxes. This oppresses poorer people (a gold of communism?). Unequal tax brackets and irregular rate increase are unjust but can be fixed with the same formula for all – total income divided by 1000 (decimal moves 3 places left), multiplied by itself to find total taxes due. The tax rate is total income divided by ten thousand (decimal moves 4 places left). For $50,000 income, it is 50x50 or $2500 in taxes and the tax rate is 5 percent. The poor keep more, the rich have plenty, with no credits, deductions, loop-holes, or rate cap. Greed is slowly penalized, so highly paid CEOs could work for less and inflation goes down.
A federal sales tax of say 5 percent is better for not everyone has a job, but if all benefit from government, all should pay, even foreign visitors, and money has no value until spent. The IRS would collect from only 50 states, so less agents needed. This would help limit spending to “provide for the common defense” (which is not defense against the common cold nor poor business or personal decisions). If all funding, even govt salaries, were a percentage of sales tax, government might help keep businesses open in emergencies, and protected from riots and ideological lawsuits. Sales tax only also permits those of faith to give first fruits of their labors to God so churches can better provide local charity. With income tax, govt demands first fruits, taking God’s place (another goal of communism?).
Leaders must live by the same laws they make. It is “we the people,” not the elite; and “of the people, by the people, and for the people OF the USA,” not just IN the US. Minimum laws with common morals give maximum freedom and liberty. Honor the pledge: One nation under God, with liberty and justice for all.
Leaders can help restore economic liberty to taxpayers, godly values to our nation, and “secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity,” simply with the same tax law for all.
Respectfully,
D. Higgins, Birch Tree
