Dear Editor,
I have wrestled with the idea of writing this letter to the editor for weeks now, and finally decided it was time for someone to speak up with a different point of view about our schools. I wrongly assumed that this "Christian conservative newspaper" would be satisfied with printing 1 or 2 weeks with EXTRA LARGE type headlines on the front pages to admonish the Willow Springs School administration & school board.
Not so, unfortunately there seems to be no end to this subject in the paper. Admittedly some financial errors were made in our district, though not intentional. Sadly though, even after numerous heartfelt apologies, it seems our Superintendent is still being scrutinized & criticized about his every move.
Naturally no one wants, nor expects a small town newspaper to remain silent on an important community issue. But rather than taking a stance which appears to relish belittling our school people with your publications, I would have appreciated just reading the facts & much needed support for our school district. While a zeal for investigative journalism must sound like an exciting venture, I'm inclined to think that, in this rural area, being immersed in it's culture to help promote unity & respect, would be a much greater service (which should be even more rewarding!) In the Howell County News, your portrayal of the happenings here reflects how you truly feel about this community.
I'm sure most of your readers have been charitable toward you when your paper has made errors. To err is human, but the Willow Springs School administration & school board is comprised of people who do care deeply about helping provide a quality education to the children here & with support from this community their future is still bright.
Patricia Collins, Willow Springs
