Catholic Mass from the eyes of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church

Hello, I’m Father Joseph Stoverink, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Willow Springs and St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Mountain View. If you’re thinking about Jesus teaching “call no man your father” (Matt. 23:9), it’s more like Paul as father to the Corinthians (1 Cor. 4:14-15) or to Timothy (1 Tim. 1:2). With gratitude for the invitation to share a few words of welcome in the coming weeks to our church, I’ve planned a series on the Catholic Mass, our Sunday worship. My hope is that if you ever choose to come by, you’ll be ready to follow along.
Each issue in this series will approach a part of the Mass. There is the Entrance and Introduction, the Liturgy of the Word, the Offertory and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.  Each has a “what’s happening” and a “why” component to cover. I can’t wait to share with you the riches of scripture that come alive through the Mass. I’ll also be sure to cover some “dos and don’ts” too so you can feel confident as a visitor.
One last thing: Please support our Sacred Heart Ladies Guild fundraisers: scrumptious cheesecakes, amazing fruitcakes, and t-shirts/mugs/socks with Catholic designs! Call Sandra Leidy at 512-415-0728 to order what you like.
