In Loving Memory of Leland Tackitt
December 8, 1953 – February 8, 2026
Leland Tackitt, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, at the age of 72. Born in West Plains on December 8, 1953, Leland was a lifelong resident of West Plains, Missouri, a community he cherished deeply and represented with pride. A proud member of the West Plains High School Class of 1972, Leland was a true Zizzer through and through, never missing an opportunity to celebrate his school and his hometown.
Leland's hands built more than just homes; through his skilled carpentry, he crafted a life full of warmth, laughter, and love. His greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, Cooper and Emma. Whether cheering from the sidelines at their sports events, coon hunting in the quiet woods with Bryan and Cooper or searching for treasures at yard sales and antique shops with Kala, Leland's heart was always with those he loved most.
Those who knew Leland will remember his unwavering devotion, not only as a grandfather and father, but also as a brother and friend. His gentle spirit, infectious laughter, and knack for storytelling brought joy to every gathering. He leaves behind his daughter Kala Trantham (husband Bryan), grandchildren Cooper and Emma, sister Lisa Bownds (David), sister-in-law Madonna Tackitt, stepmother Edie Tackitt, two uncles, Roy Marshell and Billy Joe Tackitt, and several nieces & nephews, and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.
Leland was preceded in death by his father Lee Olen Tackitt and mother Geneva Marshell Tackitt; his son, LJ Tackitt; Cooper and Emma's Nana - Vicki Cooper; mother-in-law, Norma Cooper; and his brothers, Keith and Kevin Tackitt.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 21, at 10:30 am at Faith Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in West Plains, Missouri. In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kala Trantham to assist with final expenses. Contributions can be mailed to: Always Faithful Memorial Services, 1940 County Road 6460, West Plains, MO 65775. (please make checks payable to Kala Trantham)
As we gather to honor Leland's memory, let us carry forward his legacy of laughter, love, and the simple joys that made life beautiful. May we remember him not only for the homes he built, but for the hearts he touched and the happiness he inspired.
Arrangements by Always Faithful Memorial Services, West Plains, Mo.
