Friday, July 29, was Mountain View Community Night at Hammons Field with the Springfield Cardinals. Mountain View Youth Athletics Association little leaguers took the field to begin the festivities. Weston Boyer threw the first pitch to Kinsley Wood, while other players watched and cheered them on from the home team dug out. Liberty Middle and High School Choir members sang "America the Beautiful" from home plate. The Springfield Cardinals went on to hit multiple home runs to seal in a 12-6 win over the Frisco Rough Riders. Everyone enjoyed a beautiful fireworks display after the game.
"We would like to give a big thank you to Trish Stoops for coordinating the event and Denise Faulkner for putting the time in to prepare the choir students," said a spokesperson for the MVYAA. "Also thank you to the Booster Club and West Plains Bank and Trust Company for providing dinner, t-shirts, and tickets for the choir. Thank you to All Pest and Termite Services for donating cash prizes for the top five ticket sellers."
