Liberty Lady Eagles wrap-up season

The Liberty Lady Eagles wrapped up their season on Monday, Feb. 21 in the second round of district play. The Lady Eagles fell to the Licking Lady Wildcats 51-67. The Lady Eagles ended their season with an impressive 19-7 record.
"This is truly a special group that the coaching staff will truly miss," commented Head Coach Eli Ernst on the season. "This team not only finishes the season with a 19-7 record (third all time at LHS), but they are tremendous examples to our future players on what it is to be an Eagle."
The district tournament started out with a win for the Lady Eagles over the Thayer Lady Bobcats 56-53. The Eagles dominated all four quarters scoring 14-12, 12-7, 5-5 and 22-12 over Thayer. For the game, Reagan Wells (So) led with 18 points followed by Lexi Shumpert (Sr) and Hadley Chowning (Fr) with 9 points each, Chloe Kelts (Jr) with 6, Sydnee Lafevers (Jr) with 4, Abby Woolsey (Sr) with 3, Kenna Woolsey (Sr) and Lyla Cornman (Jr) with 2 points each. The win had the Lady Eagles advancing to the semi-finals of district play.
On Monday, February 21, the Lady Eagles fell to the Licking Lady Wilcats 51-67. Licking dominated the first quarter scoring 27 to Liberty's 14 points. Liberty scored 12 to Licking's 10 points in the second, 14 to Licking's 15 pionts in the third and 11 points to Licking's 15 in the fourth quarter. For the game A. Woolsey (Sr) led with 12 points followed by Shumpert (Sr) with 10, Wells (So) and Chowning (Fr) with 8 points each, K. Woolsey (Sr) with 6, Cornman (Jr) with 3, Kelts (Jr) and Lafevers (Jr) with 2 points each.
"We are sad to have our season end so abruptly, but we will use it as our springboard for next season," Coach Ernst stated. "We will graduate five girls, Kiley Taber, Riley Taber, Kenna Woolsey, Lexi Shumpert and Abby Woolsey. These five have been in our system for five years and it is great to see their growth and development. We know they will go on and do great things in whatever future endeavor they may choose. We know their footprint on our program was one that won't be easy to replicate."
