Lady Eagles take third in Licking tournament

Rounding out a light week of volleyball, the Lady Eagles end with a win over Lesterville and third place in the Licking tournament.
On Monday, Oct. 3, the Lady Eagles hosted the Lesterville Lady Bearcats.
JV came away with a win in two sets 25-21 and 25-18. Freshman Kelbie Smith had 5 kills, 1 block; Freshman Jade Acklin had 11 assists; and Junior Kaylie Foster led with 7 kills.
In the Varsity game it was truly a battle. After the Lady Eagles lost the first set 17-25 they adjusted and rallied to take the next three sets 25-23, 26-24 and 25-18. For the game, Senior Kenzie Daniels had 7 kills, 1 ace, and 6 digs; Senior Lyla Cornman had 4 kills, 3 aces, and 19 digs; Junior Bre Daniels had 8 kills, 3 aces, and 14 digs; Junior Kinzie Tomey had 3 kills, 1 ace, and 3 digs; Junior Maci Tharp had 4 digs; Sophomore Bryleigh Wallace had 5 kills, and 5 digs; Sophomore Korie Lind had 11 kills, 2 aces, and 2 digs; and Sophomore Kaylie Wagner had 17 digs.
"Lesterville is always a really good gritty Class 1 school," reflected Head Coach Shari Tune on the win. "They are very disciplined and well coached. It’s always a learning experience to play them. They don’t quit and see the floor well. I'm glad a few adjustments allowed us to compete a bit better after the first set. I was happy to see us able to make adjustments!"
The Lady Eagles ended the week competing in the 72nd Annual Progressive Ozark Bank LHS Volleyball Classic in Licking.
The Lady Eagles began tourney play in the Orange Pool against Summersville winning in two sets 25-21, 25-13. Next up the Lady Eagles defeated Steelville in two sets 25-11 and 25-17. The third game of pool play had the Lady Eagles facing off against the Cabool Lady Bulldogs where the Eagles won in two sets 25-8 and 25-20. Ending pool play, the Lady Eagles split with Salem 26-27 and 25-18. The Lady Eagles lost to Park Central in semi-final play 22-25 and 25-27. The Lady Eagles took third place in the tournament defeating host team Licking 25-12 and 25-22. For the game, K. Daniels with 16 kills, 2 aces, and 26 digs; Cornman with 5 kills, and 9 assists; B. Daniels with 28 kills; Tharp with 31 assists; Lind with 7 aces; and Wagner had 18 digs.
Next up Liberty will Travel to Salem on Tuesday, Oct. 11 and then host Thayer on Thursday, Oct. 13.
