Lady Bears record season comes to an end

The Willow Springs Lady Bears volleyball season came to an end on Thursday, Oct. 24 in Houston, Mo. as the Lady Bears fell in the second round of district play. The season however, was definitely one for the record books as the program boasted a 24-win season.

"I went as far back as 2009 on MSHSAA to check records and the team has never had a 24 winning season," explained Head Coach Christina Collins.

The Class 3 District 11 tournament began on Tuesday, Oct. 22 as Houston (4) defeated Forsyth (5) in five sets (3-2). Willow Springs (3) defeated Ava (6) in three sets, 25-11, 25-16, 25-12. On Thursday, Oct. 24 Mountain Grove (1) defeated Houston (4) in three sets. The Lady Bears fell to Hollister, the number two seed, in three sets. The district championship game was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 between Mountain Grove and Hollister. Mountain Grove won the district championship defeating Hollister 3-1.

"Nobody likes to lose, and no one wants their season to end on a loss, but the girls had a great season this year," reflected Head Coach Collins. "They came out with 24 wins this season. I will truly miss our eight seniors, but they helped leave a big impact on our volleyball program."

The Lady Bears record season ended at 24-8-2, coming out in the top two spots in two tournaments. The Lady Bears finished second in the Houston Volleyball Tournament held on Saturday, Oct. 5 losing first place to Mountain Grove. Paisley Crudgington and Aleisha Shanks made the Houston All-Tournament team. The Lady Bears won the Licking Volleyball Classic on Saturday, Oct. 12. During that tournament the Lady Bears only lost one set defeating Eminence, Cabool, Salem, Couch, Licking and Summersville. Congratulations to the Lady Bears on their 2024 season.
