Why make time to read a book?

In a world so full of distractions, business, and passive entertainment, why should we make time to read a book? According to the National Library of Medicine, a chapter a day will add years to your life; so grab a few best sellers, a glass of sun tea, and toast to your good health!

May is here and we are excited to get started on our summer reading, learning and fun activities! The theme this year is "Unearth A Story” and we have some great dinosaur, archeology, and gardening themed projects and visitors lined up beginning the last week of May and running through mid-July. We’re starting things off on May 26 with certified gardener, herbalist and food preservationist Carol Hughes who will teach classes on herbal remedies, foraging, fermenting and food preservation. We are also happy to welcome back Mia Harris’ cooking classes from the Howell County Extension office as well as Joshua Dunn’s gardening class on May 28. You can Read, Roll & Win again this year as well as earn points for prizes. We have challenges for toddlers, children, teens and adults so stop by the Mountain View Public Library to sign up for our CSLP Summer Reading Program.

We will host a PaperPie Bookfair May 21 to June 2. PaperPie carries Usborne and Kane Miller books. Our Scholastic Book Fair will be June 15-27 and we will again be participating in the Happy McReaders Program beginning on June 8. Make plans to be with us on June 10 when we will have a presenter from the Center for Archeological Research and on June 25 for our annual visit from Dickerson Park Zoo.

We would like to thank those who have supported our library through fundraisers, donations and legacy gifts. Your contributions allow us to produce quality programs throughout the year.

C.S. Lewis said, “No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally-and often far more-worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond.”

Wishing you the perfect book, the most comfortable chair, and a glass of tea just the way you like it.
