Alvan Marcum

Alvan Marcum, 81, born on December 4, 1941, in Mansfield, Missouri, to Samuel and Violet Marcum. The beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on May 27, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion. Alvan is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Rose Marcum, who lovingly cared for him through thick and thin.
Alvan and Rose shared a remarkable journey together, building a strong and enduring bond throughout their nearly six decades of marriage. Their love and commitment to each other were a testament to the power of lifelong partnership.
Alvan was a dedicated father, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his son, Michael Marcum, and his wife, Donna, as well as his daughter, Denise Barbee, and her husband, Chris. His love and guidance were unwavering, providing a source of support throughout their lives. Alvan's legacy also extends to his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry his spirit with them, forever touched by his love and influence.
Alvan was one of ten siblings, and he is survived by his brother George of Pomona and his sister, Rosie of Illinois. 
Alvan had a passion for woodworking and was a master craftsman. His skill and creativity shone through in every project he undertook. Moreover, Alvan had a remarkable talent for fixing anything that came his way. His resourcefulness and problem-solving abilities were admired by all who knew him.
Alvan was a dedicated individual who contributed his skills and talents to various endeavors throughout his life. He retired from Willow Springs School. His commitment and dedication to his work left a lasting impression on those who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
Friends and family are invited to gather in loving memory of Alvan at Yarber Mortuary, Willow Springs, Missouri, on Thursday, June 1 at 10:00 am to celebrate his remarkable life. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9-10:00 am, also at the funeral home. We come together to honor his memory, share stories, and find solace in the bonds we formed with him.  Alvan will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, and his ability to bring joy to others.
