City of Mtn. View appoints Interim City Clerk

During a closed session meeting held Tuesday, Oct. 5 the board of aldermen of the City of Mountain View appointed Jerica Will as the city's interim clerk. Will was sworn in by Kelly Waggoner on Wednesday of last week and assumed duties immediately, according to Mayor Karen Gaddy.

Mayor Gaddy explained to Howell County News that, "A job offer for the position of City Clerk was presented to Anastatia Smith, current Winona City Clerk. She did sign a letter of acceptance and will begin her duties November 9."

Prior to Smith being offered the position, the council made a change to the city ordinances removing the residency requirement from the city clerk position. The city clerk position was the only city employee position that had a residency requirement, and it restricted the ability of council to attract applicants to fill the position with the best candidate due to the residency requirement, Gaddy said.

The vote to change the ordinance was 2 to 2 with Mayor Gaddy casting the deciding vote to change.
