Calls for Service

August 14

Asst. Chief Trenton Roberts and Officer Matthew Combs responded to a report of an individual threatening suicide. EMS transported the individual.

Officer Combs conducted a requested wellbeing check.

Sgt. Nathan Griffin and Officer Combes conducted a requested wellbeing check on a child. They found the child fine and playing with a sibling.

August 16

Officer Megan Barnes responded to a report of a domestic altercation. Her investigation found a parent yelling at a child. The child went with the mother for the night.

Asst. Chief Roberts attempted to contact the property owner for allowing multiple chickens to run loose into neighboring properties. A citation will be issued.

Cpl. Kylie McGee assisted the fire department with a vehicle fire.

Cpl. McGee conducted a check on an individual parked in the grass at the airport. The individual stated they were taking photographs of lightning.

Cpl. McGee removed a deer from the side of the roadway.

Officer Jacob Brixey responded to a traffic complaint at McDonalds and arrested a driver for driving while intoxicated.

August 17

Officer Brixey noticed lights on in a vehicle and after conducting a check on the vehicle, turned the lights off.

Asst. Chief Roberts assisted Children’s Division with an investigation follow-up.

Chief Stetson Schwien and Asst. Chief Roberts spoke with an individual reporting a vehicle followed him around while making his deliveries. When the reporting party confronted the driver, the driver pulled a firearm on him. The incident took place outside city limits in the county and they forwarded the information. A Howell County deputy arrived and took one person into custody. 

August 18

Officer Brixey took a report of a gas drive off. The business provided a photo of the vehicle for evidence.

Officer Barnes responded to a neighbor dispute, both claiming the other’s dog were always out an in their yard.

August 19

Asst. Chief Roberts and Officer Combs responded to a death investigation. The coroner stated the death appeared of natural causes.

August 20

Shannon County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired in the downtown area of Birch Tree. Due to the nature of the call and limited available resources, they requested mutual aid from surrounding law enforcement agencies. Officer Brixey responded and the investigation determined a male assaulted his ex-girlfriend in the front yard of her residence. A third party intervened during the assault. The victim then deployed OC spray on the male. The male retreated into his residence, located less than 100 yards away, and discharged a firearm approximately five to six times. Mutual aid units assisted with scene security, perimeter establishment, and investigation. 

Officer Combs took a report of a gas drive off. 

Officer Combs responded to a medical call of an individual falling from a ladder. He assisted first responders until EMS arrived and transported the individual.

Officer Combs investigated an assault at Malone’s Motel. He issued both participants citations to court.

Officer Combs assisted a subject with posting bond on an outstanding warrant.

 

For the week officers: assisted with one animal call, conducted two area checks, followed up on five previous investigations, spoke with fourteen individuals requesting or relaying information, and issued fourteen traffic warnings.
