Willow Chess Bears compete well at recent tournament

Willow Chess Bears brought home lots of hardware from the Second Annual Queen's Gambit Dent-Phelps Chess Tournament. The tournament was held on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Salem, Mo. The Willow Springs Elementary team won second place. Michael Iacovlev was undefeated in first individual spot, and Oakley Hatch was sixth with two wins and a draw. The Middle School Bears won the tournament in the junior high section. Ayden Bennett was second, Heidi Bennett was fourth, and Kane Bennett placed fifth. Brennan Dye won two games, Lachlann Burton and Genesis Higgs earned a win and a draw each. The Willow Springs High School team was second with Otto Schuette earning three wins and a draw, and Sabastian Puher scoring two wins. The next tournament will be held in West Plains, Mo. on Saturday, Dec. 20.
