Municipal charges for daycare owner, employee

Two Willow Springs women accused of endangering the welfare of children will plead their case before the municipal judge. Willow Springs City Attorney Zane Privette filed charges against Alisa Altermatt, 39, and Alyssa Breidt-McClellan, 29, on September 4. The charges are municipal infractions, not felonies, and will be adjudicated in the city court in Willow Springs. 

 

Court documents allege the defendants acted with “criminal negligence…by failing to appropriately supervise Victim [x]…a child in defendant’s care resulting in victim [x] leaving the enclosed outdoor area of the daycare facility and wandering on nearby public streets for approximately thirty minutes.”

 

Charges cite the city’s municipal code 210.050, which reads in pertinent part, “(3) Being a parent, guardian or other person legally charged with the care or custody of a child less than seventeen (17) years old, he/she recklessly fails or refuses to exercise reasonable diligence in the care or control of such child…”

 

As previously reported by Howell County News, Altermatt is the owner of Cub Club, the daycare facility on S. Harris St. Two toddler boys wandered away from the outdoor play area and were found by a concerned citizen at Center and Valley Sts., according to a release from Willow Springs Police Department. 

 

Breidt-McClellan was employed at the daycare, and responsible for watching approximately ten children when the boys went missing, said the same release. She has been charged with two municipal counts, one count for each victim. Altermatt has been charged with one count.

 

The defendants are scheduled to appear before the Honorable William T. Hass in Willow Springs on October 14 for an initial appearance.
