MV-BT school board meets, verifies election results

The Mountain View-Birch Tree School Board met on Thursday, April 10 at the Liberty Middle School to hold their monthly board meeting. During this meeting, the school board announced the verified election results, held a swearing in, and restructured the board.

Incumbents Dr. Mikael Orchard and Josh Roberts were re-elected to their seats by a vote of 199 and 189 respectively. The two were sworn in by board secretary Rhonda Henry. Afterwards, the school board was restructured naming Dr. Orchard as the board president, Shelly Mantel as the board vice president and Eric Wells as the board MSBA delegate.

The regular board meeting began as Dr. Orchard took over the meeting as president. The board approved minutes from the last meeting after it was amended to show that Jacob Shockley was hired as a third grade teacher. It was not specified what building he would be in during the meeting.

Due to the flooding/weather on April 4, the district dismissed early. To keep in compliance with 1,044 hours per year, the board approved that school will be in session on Mondays beginning Monday, April 28, finishing the school year with five-day weeks. The last day of school will be Friday, May 23 and the school day will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.
