Liberty's linemen pave the way

Normally, this article gives a score-by-score synopsis of the Liberty Eagle's football game on Friday nights. However, we're going a slightly different direction with this week's game.
If you asked a football coach, ‘what is the most important position group on the field?’, no doubt 10 out of 10 would say the offensive and defensive linemen. These gentlemen are the heart and soul of a team. They, more often than not, dictate the outcome of the game. And yet, all their hard work doesn't show up in the stat book.
Last year, Liberty's linemen were very young and outsized in just about every game. But, with that adversity, they gained valuable experience. They worked hard in the off-season to get bigger, faster, and stronger, and it shows.
This season, they are a seasoned group with good size and have dominated their opponent every week. At the end of the season, Liberty's linemen should be well represented with conference, district, and even state honors.
Leaders for the Eagles in the trenches are; Brody Rutledge, Kaden Farrell, Skyler Rogers, Noah Hendricks, Blake Martin, Ashton Stanley, Luka Vandervort, Wyatt Honeycutt, Jaren Rutledge, Matt Bushong, and Angel Lopez, among others.
For the Liberty football team, Friday night was another notch in the win column. Led by the linemen, the Eagles were able to put up over 600 yards of offense and held the home team, Salem, to negative yards on the night.
The 60-0 win at Salem pushed their overall record to 8-0, and at least a share of the South Central Association conference championship.
This week, Houston will host the Eagles, boasting an impressive 7-1 record of their own. Houston, with a win, would claim a share of the conference title with the Eagles. If Liberty takes care of business, they will win the championship outright.
