The 1138th Military Police Company in West Plains will hold a deactivation ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m. at the West Plains Armory, located at 1315 Webster Street.

The Missouri National Guard unit is being deactivated with a combat engineer unit set to replace it, adding even more soldiers and equipment at the facility. The Guard signed a lease with the city of West Plains and Howell County in August, which runs through 2051, and is set to expand the unit from 50 soldiers up to 125. The move is predicted to double the Guard’s economic impact in the area as well.

Refreshments will be served immediately following the ceremony on Sunday.
