West Plains Mayor Mike Topliff signs proclamation, Constitution Week Sept. 17-23

On Friday, September 9, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Ozark Spring (NSDAR) joined West Plains Mayor, Mike Topliff as he signed a proclamation commemorating September 17-23 as Constitution Week.
This year marks the 67th anniversary of Constitution Week. The tradition was started by the NSDAR in 1955. Later, it was adopted with a resolution by the United States Congress and signed into public law on August 2, 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
During Constitution Week, educational activities are encouraged to study historical documents that led to the framing of the Constitution in 1787 and to celebrate the freedoms it gave all Americans. The United States Constitution is the oldest Constitution still in active use today and it is the basic document of our republic, which protects the individual liberties of citizens through written law.
