Schwien promoted to MVPD Chief

After the resignation of former police chief James Perkins, the Mountain View Board of Aldermen voted to promote Stetson Schwien into that role on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

"It truly is an honor," said Schwien. "It’s something I do not take lightly. I grew up here. Both sides of my family have deep roots in Mountain View. Many folks still remember my grandparents’ Miller’s Drive-In and  the Schwien Egg Farm. This community means a lot to me. My goal is to lead a professional, community-focused police department that people can be proud of and trust."

Schwien has been with the MVPD full-time for most of his law-enforcement career. He started in 2014 and has served as a jailer at the Howell County Sheriff's Department for around a year while in law enforcement academy. From 2016 to 2018, Schwien served full-time with the Shannon County Sheriff's Department before returning to the MVPD full-time as a detective. He has held the ranks of Officer First Class, Corporal, Detective, Assistant Chief and now Chief. Schwien teaches POST classes for the department including firearms courses, taser classes, and Type II instructor certified. He also writes grants for the department
Schwien, along with his wife Lacy, raise their two children together in Mountain View. They are active in their community and their church. He told The News that his family wants to invest in the community, to build a good future together.

"I care about this town and the people in it," said Schwien. "I want to give Mountain View the kind of police department that works with the community, supports families, and helps make this a safe place to call home.”
