End of Watch

A Howell County Sheriff's Deputy of nearly 25 years’ service succumbed to injuries sustained in an off-duty motor vehicle accident. Corporal Michael C. Wall passed away on January 20, confirmed Sheriff Brent Campbell in a statement.
Cpl. Wall was in a multi-vehicle crash on December 27 on Highway 63 one mile south of West Plains. While traveling southbound on Highway 63 at 4:59 p.m., Wall's vehicle was struck head on by Bailey Pine, 26, of West Plains. Pine’s vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, reports Missouri State Highway Patrol. Pine was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Chris Cochran at 5:47 p.m.
Cpl. Wall was airlifted from the scene for treatment of his serious injuries.
Cpl. Wall began his career with the Howell County Sheriff’s Office on March 7, 1997. He served as bailiff for the past 18 years in the Howell County Courthouse
“Corporal Wall was well respected by his seniors, peers and subordinates,” reads a statement from Sheriff Campbell. “He was always eager to assist in developing systems and the means to maintain security throughout the courthouse. He was an asset to our community and will be missed by those that knew him. Corporal Wall is survived by his wife, daughter, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. I ask our community to keep the family and friends in their prayers and thoughts throughout this time of healing.”
