Roberta Ann Houser

Roberta Ann Houser was born on November 8, 1936, in Fredericktown, Missouri, to Robert Virgil and Dorothy Luella (Combs) Houser. She departed this world bound for her heavenly home on May 12, 2024, Mother's Day, at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 4 days.

Roberta grew up in Fredericktown and Davis Place (Clayton), Missouri. Later in her childhood, she moved with her grandmother, Lydia "Ida" Edmonds, to Summersville where she lived for several years and attended school until the eleventh grade.

It was in Summersville that she met her husband, Emmett Thomure, while he was visiting his sister. They fell in love and were married on January 12, 1955, in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. Together, they were blessed with 10 children: Mike, Rick, Sherri, Brad, Jeff, Sheila, Robin, Sandy, Karen, and Steven. Throughout their lives, they lived in various cities and states, including Missouri, Indiana, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

In 1976, they settled back in Summersville, Missouri, in Roberta's childhood homeplace, where they made countless memories over the years. During this time, Roberta held various jobs, including working at Angelica, substituting as a school cook in Summersville and Mountain View, and working at Summersville City Hall as the City Clerk for many years. She was well-known in the town through her work and her husband Emmett's ministry.

Those who knew Roberta understood her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She never hesitated to express her devotion through prayers for her children, grandchildren, and anyone she crossed paths with. She also had a remarkable gift for singing, which she shared with her loved ones through constant humming and singing. This beautiful gift will live on through the generations of her family. In the past year, she found great joy in living with her daughter Sandy and son-in-law Ted. Roberta loved spending time on their porch, listening to the birds sing, and welcoming anyone who came to visit. She was looking forward to the Thomure Reunion on June 1st, where she planned to reunite with her large family at the Thomure Homestead. The legacy that Roberta leaves behind will continue to thrive through her family for generations to come.

Roberta is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emmett Thomure, her parents, Robert and Dorothy Houser, her grandmother and mother figure, Ida Edmonds, her sisters Loretta "Fay," Virginia "Ginni," and Flora May "Catherine," her brothers James Houser and Robert Spain, her son Richard Thomure, and her grandchildren Richard II, Andrew, Brooke, Eugene, and Adam.

Roberta is survived by her loving children: Mike and Kathy Thomure of Summersville, Sherri and Wallace Quibodeaus of Springfield, Brad and Rachel Thomure of Chaffee, Missouri, Jeff and Teresa Thomure of Summersville, Sheila and Mark Balsano of Gamaliel, Arkansas, Robin and Arthur Young of Mountain View, Sandy and Ted Ledbetter of West Plains, Karen and Scott Safranek of Marshfield, and Steven and Angel Thomure of West Plains. She is also survived by 53 grandchildren, 102 great-grandchildren (with number 103 on the way), 15 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Roberta will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but they can find solace in knowing that she had a strong and unwavering relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Funeral services were held May 15, at Bradford Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Worley officiating. Interment was in the Summersville City Cemetery. Services were under the care of Bradford Funeral Home and online condolences may be left at www.bradfordfuneralhome.net
