West Plains Community Garden participating in Seed Money Challenge

"Planting seeds and growing a better community for those who need us most.” That is the pledge and purpose of the West Plains Community Garden located in a small park in the southern Missouri Ozark town of West Plains. A large portion of resources is dedicated to youngsters growing nutritious, organic food for the Boys and Girls Club and “Feed the City” kitchens. The rest of the garden is devoted to very low to moderate income families, mostly apartment dwellers, who rent space to grow their own food which they “put up” for the winter. A spacious greenhouse was built this past year to provide the youngsters with year-round gardening activities and gardeners with affordable seedlings.

Funds through the Seed Money Challenge will be used to purchase equipment and supplies to bring the green house into full operation – fans for air circulation, shelving, sterile potting soil and seedling trays, for instance. This year's goal is to make possible year-round gardening and to grow even more nutritious, organic produce for “Those Who Need Us Most!”

The 10th annual #SeedMoneyChallenge is a 30-day fundraising challenge running from November 15 to December 15. In addition to keeping 100% of the funds raise from individuals, the community garden will have a chance to win a challenge grant of up to $1,000 from SeedMoney based on how much is raised over the course of the 30-day challenge period.

As extra incentives, SeedMoney is offering a $400 bonus grant to the campaign that raises the most in the first 24 hours and 50 $100 bonus grants to the 50 campaigns that raise the most during the first week. The communities support on launch day can help secure one of these bonus grants.
