'Garden Party' concert at Star Theater June 15

Just in time to celebrate the arrival of summer, the Southern Ozarks Community Orchestra is presenting a concert entitled “Garden Party” at the historic Star Theater in Willow Springs on Saturday, June 15. The “party” starts at 7:00 p.m. and tickets are available at the door. Admission for adults is $10.00 and children under 12 years of age will be admitted free of charge.

 

This concert features some gorgeous musical selections including “Poem for Orchestra” by Tatgenhorst, “Summer Dances” by Balmages, and of course “Summertime” by Gershwin. There is a beautiful Scottish piece by Ticheli called “Loch Lomond” and even some “Sea Shanties”. For added drama, the program includes “Berceuse and Finale” by Stravinsky. Lovers of Josh Groban will enjoy a medley of his hits including “The Prayer", "You Raise Me Up", and "To Where You Are." Just for fun pieces include, “St. Louis Blues” by Handy, “Dance of the Hours” by Ponchielli, and “Celebration”.

 

The orchestra is directed by Jodie Forbes and sponsored by the Willow Springs Arts Council. This is the fifteeneth year for the orchestra in Willow Springs and members include musicians of all ages from the surrounding area.
