West Plains R-VII School District welcomes new Director of Bands

The Zizzer Pride Band has a new leader. The district is pleased to announce Zane Johnson has been selected as the new director of bands. Johnson is currently the band director at Mountain View-Birch Tree School District.
As Rocky Long, the current director of bands prepares to retire at the close of the school year, he leaves behind a legacy of excellence. Long will begin a new chapter, spearheading a new band program at Missouri State University—West Plains after serving as the Zizzer band director since 2004.
"My goal is to honor the legacy and achievements of the Zizzer band program while making the transition as smooth as possible," says Johnson.
Johnson is a 2017 graduate of West Plains High School. He earned a Bachelor of Music from Southeast Missouri State University. He is also pursuing a Master's in Education.
Johnson will begin the position on July 1, 2024.
