Springfield Symphony prepares its 86th season with musical "Comfort Food" in Fall 2020

The Springfield Symphony is preparing its 86th consecutive season with musical comfort food. The organization's 2020-2021 season, Comfort Food, will continue its tradition of a nine-concert subscription series. All concerts will be performed at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts running October 10, 2020 through May 8, 2021.

"This has been a strange and challenging time for everyone all over the world," stated Kyle Wiley Pickett, music director/conductor for the Springfield Symphony.  "We wanted to bring some sense of normalcy, familiarity, and comfort to our audiences and ourselves alike. With that said, we've decided to offer a season of music that will bring comfort and happiness to our community.  Much like the comfort of spaghetti and meatballs, chicken noodle soup, freshly baked bread or apple pies, the Springfield Symphony will bring a year of musical Comfort Food to our audiences, including favorites by Beethoven, Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Brahms."

For his eighth season with the Springfield Symphony, Maestro Pickett has selected works such as Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, Mozart's Sinfonia concertante, and Brahms's Symphony No. 2. "These pieces are loved and popular because they're wonderful music written by our favorite composers," said Pickett. "Their beauty and familiarity make them accessible and enjoyable to everyone. Coming to a Springfield Symphony concert this year will be like sitting down at a table filled with familiar and favorite delights. There will be something for everyone and plenty to go around, and it's exactly what we all need right now."
