R-VII hires Deputy Supt.

The West Plains R-VII School District announced last week the hiring of Mr. Matthew Orchard as the new Deputy Superintendent, effective July 1, 2026.
Orchard was hired during a closed session on November 11 after the school board interviewed three candidates. The draft minutes of the meeting redact the applicants’ names.
At a motion from Christena Coleman, and seconded by Shealia Harper, the board agreed unanimously to offer the position to Orchard.
“Orchard brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership and a long-standing commitment to the West Plains community,” reads the district's announcement.
Orchard has served as the District's Director of Human Resources and Student Services since 2022. Prior to that, he served as principal of West Plains High School (2020–2022), assistant principal of West Plains Middle School (2018–2020), and assistant principal of West Plains Elementary (2016–2018). His career in education began in 2009 at the Mountain View-Birch Tree School District, where he worked as the alternative school coordinator, business teacher, and coach.
He holds a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri, further supporting his extensive experience in administration and student-focused leadership. In his role as Deputy Superintendent, Orchard will work closely with Dr. Wesley Davis to ensure a smooth and seamless transition of leadership when Dr. Davis retires on June 30, 2027, says the district’s statement.
