Classical Conversations community holds mock trial

Eighth grade students or “Challenge B class” from the local Willow Springs Classical Conversations community, traveled to Ozark and Marshfield to compete in multiple mock trials at the county courthouses during the week of April 22. It was the highlight of the debate strand for the class for the year.

Beginning in January, the students prepared their case to be heard by a jury and real judge. Each student had an opportunity to play attorney/witness/bailiff roles for prosecution or defense. Using their persuasive rhetorical skills, students decided on a theme for their case and the most effective way to present this case while they navigated their way through witness statements, police reports, and prior case law.

Every student grew in critical thinking and public speaking. Planning for next year’s mock trial starts now. If your homeschool student is interested in participating in next year’s mock trial, you can reach out to Michelle Lewis 417-372-7449.
