Ida Rosella Bean

Funeral services for Ida Rosella Bean, 92, West Plains, Mo., will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2008, in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mrs. Bean died 3:07 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2008, in West Vue Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 30, 1915, in Sarben, Neb., to Charles Edward and Lura May Rogers Shaw. She received her education in the schools of St. Joseph, Mo., and on Nov. 28, 1945, was married at Los Angeles, Calif. to Meredith Reed Bean who preceded her in death on March 24, 1973. Mrs. Bean was active in the Democrat Party having served as chairman of the Howell County Democrat Party from 1980 to 2002, and there is a tree planted on the east side of the Howell County Courthouse in her honor. Also, she served as secretary of the Stuart Union Cemetery Association. Mrs. Bean was a member of the First Christian Church of West Plains. She is survived by her nieces, Cindy Rozhovsky, Zana Gorman, Karen Mistrot, Kathleen Bean, Karla Bean and Connie Troutman; great-niece, Jennifer Troutman; great-nephew, Daniel Troutman; cousins, George and Rosemary Whitman and Darrell Jarman; sisters-in-law, Pauline Riley and Emma Bean; and family friends, Richard and Sylvia Carson, Fred and Helen York and Travis and Kathy Morrison. Her parents; husband; and two brothers, Frank Shaw and Clarence Shaw, precede her in death. Burial will be in Stuart Union Cemetery. Dale Brewer

Funeral services for Dale Brewer, 76, West Plains, Mo., will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mr. Brewer died 11:04 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2008, in Ozarks Medical Center. He was born Jan. 15, 1932, in Chanute, Kan., to Fred and Dora Endicott Brewer. On Dec. 16, 1972, he was married at Eudora, Kan., to Linda Lane Durham. Mr. Brewer was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He had been employed as a plant director of the Leavenworth, Kan., school system and was executive secretary and treasurer of all Kansas school facilities for many years. Mr. Brewer was a member of the Central Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Linda Brewer, of the family home; three children, Katherine Morrow and husband, Steve, of Landrum, S.C., Tracy Martin and husband, Emmett, of Leavenworth, Kan., and Scott Brewer, Kansas City, Mo.; one step-son, Danny Lane and wife, Linda, Desoto, Kan.; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three step great-grandchildren; one brother, Gary Brewer of Virgil, Kan.; two sisters, Doris Pruitt of Chanute, Kan., and Elsie Mozingo and husband, Roy, of Gridley, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, two brothers and three sisters precede him in death. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Frank Dow

Frank Dow was born Nov. 3, 1932 in Teresita, Mo., to Joseph and Addie Ann (Galbraith) Dow. He departed this life on April 21, 2008, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo., at the age of 75 years. Frank graduated from Birch Tree High School in 1950. He married Anita Louise Tyrer on May 6, 1956, in Shawnee, Kan. To this union, three children were born – Russell, Rex and Lanna. Frank served his country in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in February 1961. He worked for many years in housing construction. Frank was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy for 56 years, where he served as a teacher of children and adult Sunday School classes, adult Bible study, and in many other activities. He was currently a member of New Life Church of God of Prophecy where his son serves as pastor. Frank loved his life as husband, father and especially grandfather. His grandchildren will remember him as “Pappa Frank.” He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Survivors include his wife, Anita, of Mountain View, Mo.; two sons, Russell Dow and Rex Dow and wife, Holly, all of Mountain View; one daughter, Lanna Tharp and husband, Allen, of Mountain View; two sisters, Wilma Jacobs of Kansas City, Mo., and Velma Dow of Mountain View; and his grandchildren, Jessica and Sydney Dow, and Nick and Mason Tharp. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 24, 2008, at the Montier Church of God of Prophecy with Brother Stacey Prewett and Brother Roger Smith officiating. Interment was in Turkey Oak Cemetery, Birch Tree, Mo., under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Mo.

Glen Gibson

Funeral services for Glen Robert Gibson, 86, West Plains, were held on Friday, May 2, 2008, in the Rose Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mr. Gibson died at 1:28 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2008, in West Vue Nursing Center. He was born on Oct. 19, 1921, in Shubert, Neb., to Frederick J. Gibson and Nettie B. Moore Gibson. Glen proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served as a mechanic and pilot aboard the U.S.S. Saipan and was a member of the vessel’s original crew at its commission on July 14, 1946. After his discharge from the Navy, Glen returned to Torrington, Wyo. There he met the love of his life, Bernice Pauline Walsh. The two were married on April 15, 1950, in Torrington, Wyo. Glen worked for a gold mining company in Alaska. He owned and operated a store and laundry in Black Hawk, Colo. He later took a job working for Coors and resided in Golden, Colo., until his retirement in 1968, at which time the family moved to Alton, Mo. Glen farmed in Alton for several years before moving with Bernice to Mansfield, Mo. The two returned to West Plains last year. Glen is preceded in death by his parents, five siblings and his daughter, Mary Annell (Gibson) Sippy. He is survived by his wife, Bernice Gibson; his son, Cecil Robert Gisbson; his son, Arthur William Gibson; his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Gibson; his son-in-law, Mark Sippy; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Gibson) Miller and husband, Christopher, Eric Gibson and wife, Emily, Marcus Sippy, David Sippy and Deidra Sippy; one great-grandson, Samuel Miller and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Burial was at the Veterans Section at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Vue Activities Fund and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Devbra Gail Luck

Funeral services for Devbra Gail Luck, 37, West Plains, Mo. were held Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Devbra died 4 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2008, at her home. She was born Oct. 19, 1970, in Commerce, Calif., to Willard (Lucky) Ernest and Carolyn J. Hearold Luck. She is survived by her mother, Carolyn Luck; five children; five brothers; six sisters; and many nieces and nephews. Betty Garnett

Funeral services for Betty Jane Garnett, 82, West Plains, were held on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church under the direction of the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Betty was born on June 28, 1925, in Franklin County, Ind. She died on April 27, 2008, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse James (Jess) Garnett Jr. and her parents, James Archibald Shuttleworth and Frances Isabel (Lake) Shuttleworth and one brother, Allen James Shuttleworth. Mrs. Garnett is survived by her sons, Mark Garnett and his wife, Diann and Jay Garnett and his wife, Karen; four grandchildren, Kimberly Foht and her husband, Jerry, Stephanie Lashley and her husband, Josh, Jonathan Garnett and Matthew Garnett; three great-grandchildren, Kayla Foht, Ethan Foht and Ella Lashley and three brothers, Thomas Michael Shuttleworth, Howard Patrick Shuttleworth and Robert Graham Hanna. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Garnett completed primary school in Blooming Grove, Ind., in 1939, and graduated from high school in Brookville, Ind., in 1943. She was married to Jesse James (Jess) Garnett on April 22, 1944, in Milan, Ind. From 1948 to 1963, Betty followed Jess throughout the Midwest as he rose in the ranks of Trumbull Asphalt Company, now a part of Owens Corning Fiberglas. While they lived in Oklahoma, she worked for the Internal Revenue Service, Tinker Air Force Base and for an independent real estate developer. She was active in various churches during this timeframe. In 1965, she helped Jess found Garnett Wood Products Co. Inc., which thrives today under Mark’s leadership. Betty was instrumental in the company’s success. She was an excellent forklift operator and served as the plant manager. After the day’s work shift was over, she switched roles and became the bookkeeper, working late into the night. She was known as one of the hardest working women in southern Missouri. She was a compassionate and considerate manager, too. Even though the vast majority of her employees were men, she would work right beside them for hours at a time. She often said that she would never ask her employees to do anything she wouldn’t do herself. Many times she would show them. Betty was a loving mother who took pride in her family and followed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren wherever they went, whether it was a football game in Ava or a little league baseball game at Preacher Roe field – Betty was there. Betty was an avid basketball fan. She would drive to smaller towns around West Plains and watch high school boys and girls basketball games and enjoy every minute of it. She was also a very big MSU Grizzlies fan. When she was in better health, she and Jess would attend every game, regardless of whether it was a home game or many miles away. She was a fixture at the Grizzly basketball team home games. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in West Plains. She will dearly be missed by her family and by the many people with whom she worked or was associated with. She was respected by her peers and by her employees. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Brandsville, Mo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MSU-West Plains Jess and Betty Garnett Family Scholarship or to the American Cancer Society and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Virdus James Hall

Funeral services for Virdus James Hall, 69, West Plains, Mo., will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mr. Hall went to meet the Lord at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at his home. He was born March 23, 1939, in Howell County, Mo. to Albert James and Myrtle Fox Hall. On May 14, 1960, he was married at West Plains, Mo., to Janice Evans. Before his retirement, Mr. Hall was employed as an inspector at the International Shoe Company. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved farming. Mr. Hall loved his granddaughters and enjoyed playing with his great-grandsons. He was a member and deacon of the Davis Creek Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Janice Hall, of the family home; two children, Brad Hall and Greg Hall and friend, Mary, all of West Plains; daughter-in-law, Terri Hall of West Plains; two grandchildren, Tabitha Hall and fiancé, Josh Jones, and Brandie Hall and fiancé, Eric Case, all of West Plains; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Case and Jacub Jones; four brothers, Darrell Hall of Pottersville, Mo., Hubert Hall and wife Carolyn, of West Plains, Gerald Hall and wife, Dona, of West Plains and Doyle Hall and wife, Elaine, of Booneville, Ark.; two sisters, Bessie Robinson and Joyce May and husband, Dorman, all of West Plains; brother-in-law, Gerald Evans and friend, Velma, of Gainesville, Mo.; sister-in-law, Shirley Lair and husband, Reed, of Smithville, Mo.; special friend, Gene Walker of West Plains; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, two brothers and one sister precede him in death. Burial will be at Cureall Cemetery. Barbara Ann Johnson

Barbara Ann (Haney) Johnson, 59, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008, due to an accident. She was born on June 23, 1948, in Houston, Mo., the daughter of Jess Lee and Phyllis Minnie (Borley) Haney. Barbara was the “older sister” to Avril and Linda. She took this job rather seriously. Barbara, Avril and Linda became known and referred to as the “Haney Girls” in Cabool. She attended Cabool schools and graduated with the class of 1966. She was a good student and was very active in school activities. As a child, she attended and joined the First United Methodist Church of Cabool. She loved her church and was very active in it until she moved away. She kept her membership here and always thought of it as her church. In August of 1968, Barbara married Cleo Johnson. They made their home in Willow Springs. While living there, they were blessed with three children, Cleo Jr., Barbara Collette and Sheila Ann. In August 1975, the family moved to Kansas City, Mo., where they were blessed with a fourth child, Christopher. Barbara was a good mother and grandmother. She thought the world of her family and would do anything for them. If she wasn’t working, she would have some of the family with her. She worked for many years for the Kansas City School system. She loved working with children. For a few years, her grandchildren attended the same school she worked at. When they would see her, they would say “Hi Grandma.” Soon, this caught on and she became everyone’s “grandma.” Barbara took a part-time job at Hurrahs on weekends. She took both jobs seriously and was a dedicated worker. She enjoyed quilting and when she had some free time, she would be quilting or shopping for material. She encouraged others to get involved with quilting. Barbara always loved the country and was looking forward to moving back. She always enjoyed watching Mother Nature at work. She was preceded in death by her parents; half brother, Pete Haney; grandson, Cody Johnson; and Cleo Johnson. Barbara is survived by her children, Cleo Jr. of Kearney, Mo., Barbara Collette of North Kansas City, Mo., Sheila Hughes of S. Kansas City, Mo., and Christopher Johnson of Kansas City, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Avril Darter and husband, George of Cabool, Mo., and Linda Long and husband, Paul of Independence, Mo.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Services were Monday, April 28, 2008, at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Art Ellsworth officiating. Interment was in the Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool, Mo.

Doris Maxine Lambe

Funeral services for Doris Maxine Lambe, 84, West Plains, Mo. were held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 5, 2008, in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mrs. Lambe died 7:03 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2008, in Brooke Haven HealthCare. She was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Muskegon, Mich., to John and Daisy Crow Gundy. On March 15, 1948, she was married at Jonesboro, Ark., to William Franklin “Frank” Lambe who preceded her in death on March 2, 2006. She enjoyed yard sales and loved her family. Mrs. Lambe was a Christian. She is survived by seven children, Betty Raistrick and husband, Mike, Bonnie Nielson and husband, Leroy, Bill Lambe and wife, Rhonda, Sue Prewitt and husband, George, John Lambe and wife, Brenda, Randy Lambe and wife, Cindy, and Jerry Lambe and wife, Julie; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Susie Passage; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, one grandson and one brother precede her in death. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery. Roy S. Patterson

Roy S. Patterson, 83, Topeka, formerly of Willow Springs, Mo., passed away April 29, 2008. He was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Springfield, Ill., to Jesse D. and Missouri (Parrot) Patterson. Roy was an over-the-road truck driver, retiring in 1978. He was U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a Sea Bee. After retirement, he enjoyed wood working and fishing. Survivors include his daughter, Margaret Jantzen (Argell); son, John Cox Sr. (Robin); two brothers; two sisters; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Anthony Joseph Puzzo

Anthony Joseph Puzzo was born July 28, 1942, in Lackawanna County, Penn., to Anthony and Louise Palumbo Puzzo. He died April 29, 2008, at Ozarks Medical Center, West Plains, Mo., at the age of 65 years. Anthony moved to Missouri in 1967, where he was married to Mary Lou Harington on Dec. 8. He raised a family and worked as a paint contractor for more than 30 years. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Carmen Palumbo and his father, Anthony Puzzo. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Mountain View, Mo.; one son, Daniel Puzzo of Hopkinsville, Ky.; one daughter, Donna McCabe of West Plains, Mo.; stepchildren, Robert Harington II of Reno, Nev., and Irene Parker of California; his mother, Louise Puzzo; three sisters, Barbara, Sharon and Kim; and seven grandchildren, Lia, Christian, and Dillon Puzzo, Derek Lucas, Evan McCabe, Desiree` and Robert Harington III. Anthony was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first. He will be missed by all. Graveside services were held Friday, May 2, 2008, at New Salem Cemetery, Mountain View, Mo., under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View.

Betty Jo Reese

Graveside services for Betty Jo Reese, 77, of West Plains, Mo., were held Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at the Oak Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mrs. Reese died 9:15 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2008, in West Vue Nursing Center. She was born Sept. 22, 1930, in Texas County near Cabool, Mo., to Gladen and Gladys Brown Davis. She had attended Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Mo., and on May 4, 1950, was married at Salem, Mo., to Almon “Hoss” Reese, who preceded her in death on March 21, 2000. She taught school for two years and had been employed as a clerk at the MFA Grocery and Feed. Mrs. Reese loved sewing, embroidery, gardening, canning, and she enjoyed her new friends at the nursing home. She was of the Baptist faith and was the WMU leader for many years at the First Baptist Church in Birch Tree, Mo. She is survived by three children, Michael Reese and wife, Dana, of Mountain View, Mo., Susan Light and husband, Paul, of Ashland, Mo., and Karen Hawkins and husband, Jim, of Pottersville, Mo.; seven granddaughters, Amy, J.J., Mandy, Becky, Ashley, Stacey and Stephanie; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vincent Davis and wife, Donna, of Mountain Grove, Mo., and Ronnie Davis and wife, Ellen, of Cabool, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents; husband; one brother, Junior Davis; and one sister, Mary Lou Davis, precede her in death. Roy Dale Weeks

Funeral services for Roy Dale Weeks, 63, West Plains, Mo., were held Sunday, May 4, 2008, in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mr. Weeks died 6:40 a.m., Friday, May 2, 2008, in Ozarks Medical Center. He was born Oct. 29, 1944, near West Plains, Mo., to Roy Benjamin and Helen Amelia Mitts Weeks. For more than 30 years, Mr. Weeks was employed in the sanding department at Amyx Manufacturing and for the last several years, was a farmer. He liked to fish, hunt and go to auctions and yard sales. Mr. Weeks attended the Union Grove Church. He is survived by his mother, Helen Weeks, of the family home; one aunt, Vivian Lovan of West Plains; several cousins; and lots of friends. His father, grandparents and several aunts and uncles precede him in death. Burial was held at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery.
